Shoot mails to Omantel and TRA

I sent a mail to Omantel tech support regarding the so called “block” and no response from them after 4 days. I don’t expect miracles from them either. If you have problem accessing Gmail.com or Blogger.com, do your bit by telling Omantel and TRA that all is not well for the past few days. For Omantel complaints, send mail to: 1313@omantel.net.om and for TRA: complaints@tra.gov.om. Numbers do matter, and send them mails asap. I don’t access to VPN, and I am posting this using a turnaround which was used in India when Blogger.com was blocked a few years back. I can just manage a post with much difficulty with no scope for posting pics. If you wanna try, do send me an email to kishorcariappa (at) yahoo.com

Blogger.com blocked in Oman?

Blogger.com is currently not accesible in Oman. Thanks to Omantel’s, filtering policy, something, somewhere has gone awry. Last week, Gmail.com was having problems, and now it is the turn of Blogger.com. I checked Livejournal and WordPress, both are fine. This means Omantel has no intention to curb blogging in Oman, and it is just a passing phase. For people who want to read comments, please click on the title of that particular post so that the post appears in one single page. Hard luck, can’t comment either. Wait for Omantel geeks to ease the “block” in the next few days. (Note: Sorry about typos, it is best i could do under circumstances)

Stingy Omantel

If you have noticed, Omantel spends a fortune on its outdoor and print advertising campaigns. Dumb hoardings with stupid lines have become their hallmark. People at helm have the knack of netting PYTs (pretty young things) as models for their campaigns. They keep an eye on local magazines to shortlist models. A majority of these PYTs are expats too.

And, how much do you think these models are getting paid for their efforts? Don’t fall off the chair. RO25 plus lunch a day! This is pittance considering the prevailing international standards. High time a professional modeling agency sets up shop in Muscat.

Muscat Fest: Al Sahwa doors to be shut for single men

MUSCAT: Putting the emphasis on families, the organisers of the Muscat Festival, which starts January 21, have decided to bar single men from visiting the brand new venue for the annual event – Al Sahwa Gardens near the Muscat International Airport.
“The newly-opened Al Sahwa Gardens will be the venue and entry will be restricted only to women, children and families,” Khaleel Al Balushi, Deputy Director of Information Department at the Muscat Municipality, said. (more)
How does one classify single men? What about men who were forced to send back their families due to increase in cost of living? Do they fall under single men category?
I can understand Muscat Municipality’s enthusiasm in making Al Sahwa Gardens an exclusive zone for women, families, and children, but at the same time hope they are able to implement some sort of ‘discipline’ at their star venue – Qurum Natural Park – where the so called cat-callers and lurkers have a hey day.

(Al Sahwa Gardens is quite nice, check it out)

Red Arrows aerobatic display

The Red Arrows, the aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force (RAF), displayed their skills over Qurum beach today evening. The show was just ok; it was not worth for the hype created around the event. It looked like the Reds didn’t have many variations in their kitty or they were too tired to try out daredevil stuff. My vote goes to the French team which was here a couple of weeks back. They were simply outstanding.
